an oriental twist

13 weeks of tough trainings and pushing yourself to the limits. it was not a very smooth-sailing journey i can say. it was a time where i made a lot of new friends and broadened my horizons with all the new experiences. who can ever believe i survived through weeks of basic military trainings? who believe i survived through the physical trainings, field camps, situational tests and etc? hahaha... best part of all, i almost became one of the members in the tug-of-war team during games day representing our company!

anyways, the day i have been looking for came on 9 dec and the feeling was damn good. its really like you have achieved something plus the fact that you are about to leave that island, WOW! hahaha, the best part would be waking early in the morning at 0315hours to prepare for the 24-km route march. its something you wont want to do in your life at all. the heavy load and the hours spent walking on the road and in the jungle. the puddles of mud water, lumps of mud, terrains, only one 15-mins rest for every 4-km you walk, you will be demoralised. every single bit of motivation gets blown away. seriously, friends and your superiors are the only motivators that can keep you move on during the few hours. you just wouldnt want to think of the parade you will be doing after the route march.

we had our packed lunch (thank god it was western, though i dont really like it now), washed up and changed. yes, we changed in the open but not entirely stripped. it would've been an embarassing moment! then we rest before we head off to the parade square. it took about a few hours to complete everything. the parade itself took about an hour or probably slightly more than that. i will upload the photos here soon so please check back again. we sang and did the cheer in unity. it was damn good, especially the moment when you throw your cap into the air. it was our final goodbye to our fellow company and platoon mates, and superiors. we left for our ferry with our family members. now did i realise that the time in bmtc is something memorable and will probably be the best time in army life.

and before all that, the weekend was spent at home with my family. booked out on saturday morning and sunday was the day i turned 20. afternoon was the part one of my cousin's wedding ceremony. buffet lunched and caught up with my cousins. then in the evening was dinner celebration with my family at pan pacific's keyaki. i swear the food still maintain its standards and its damn good! sadly the menu doesnt depict any images of the dishes served. the hotel presented me with a cake and free parking. double goodness! after the dinner, my sister suggested taking the flyer. for this time, one of my many wishes came true la. haha ive always wanted to try out the flyer for the longest time and last sunday, i finally took it. the experience was damn good, we were fortunate enough to have our own capsule (with the help of the oncoming crowd that walked very slowly and the staffs at the flyer). i will also upload the photos taken in and from the flyer. "im on the... top of the world looking..." oh yes, my sister and her boyfriend got me a present too! triple happiness.

okay, im meeting my bunkmates for dinner at bugis later. i didnt even manage to get any cakes for our combined birthday celebration. oh well, i shall see what i can do tomorrow. hope they wont blow up and pour the hot soup on me. hahaha... then on friday i will be meeting up with pat and kwang for ktv session! haha its been 3 months since we last met up for singing! pretty excited and this time we're doing a small xmas gift exchange. i really hope i can get something they will like and not screw me upside down for buying them the wrong stuffs. its always nice to meet up with them!

alright, i guess i'd better go now and sleep.

we are the bedrock of our army
wanting to keep our people free
committed to the independence of our nation
we are the men from the infantry

there will never be a mountain too high,
or a route too tough for us
we are about the rule the day and the darkest night
we'll never rest till the wrong is right

we are a special band of soldiers
raised to guard our nation's shores
we base our lives upon a set of seven values
to defend our nation's cause

and when our country says she needs us
we'll always be by her side
we'll protect the lives of every singaporean
for singapore we'll give our lives

from the land, air and sea
we will strike our enemy
they have called us the queen of the battlefield
oooh
we are brothers in arms
we are brothers proud to be
we are the first, the one and only infantry
we are the first, the one and only infantry

POP LO! :)
