Ladies & Gentlemen, I welcome you to the last entry of the Year 2006 for my 2-years and going on blog. I hope this entry will achieve the objective of making it sound like I am doing some recollections. Oh well, there isn't really just one word or phrase that can simply describe the ups and downs in this, I can say, not very smooth-sailing year. However, there are some wonderful times that is worth remembering :)))
Okay, I hope this entry will not be eaten up because of the unnecessary internet disconnection due to the earthquake in Taiwan several days ago. *Crosses fingers*
Anyways, Year 2006 didn't start off well I can say. I remember....
Counting down with my mom, sis and my mom's friend at Marina Square, hearing the crowd ushering the brand new year and watching the spectcular fireworks display. It was a wonderful start that really made me feel that a brand new year means a new start so whatever we've done in 2005 will be thrown into the History book and forgotten (this applies to the bad things we've done).
Doing the damn attachment at the school's three outlets was tedious and that was when I made new friends and became closer to them. The fun times will never be forgotten, but the worst times will also never be forgotten. Some of my friends withdrew from school, most probably because of the attachment and the course did not meet their expectations.
My dearest and closest grandmother passed away on 12 January and it was the time when I felt a sense of loss and couldn't believe that she has left us just like that. However with this happening, the family members are now closer and the bond is being pulled together.
Ending my Food & Beverage module and was really happy to let go of those sucky subjects. But came to realise that F&B is fun afterall.
Rushing for the projects, especially the never-forgotten wedding project which I did the compilation all on my own. I realised the people whom I've worked with are not those I will work with in the future. They do not suck, but they are just going to be friends and not working partners.
Having conflicts with some of my classmates because of some misunderstandings. I admit those were some silly misunderstandings that could be avoided. Fortunately, everything had been cleared and things went better in school.
Going to one of my dream destinations, Taiwan. Well, it's not really considered a "dream" destination, perhaps I should put it as somewhere I wish to go and take a look. Been to the different parts of Taiwan and traveling to most parts of Taiwan was something amazing. Visiting the Taroko Gorge with this adventurous heart and afraid-to-die feeling, the view was breathtaking. Shopping at Taipei 101 and Xi Men Ding and eating those snacks from the night markets were never tiring and definitely fruitful!
Being appointed as one of the 48 students to participate in the worldwide-focused/nationwide event, the Singapore 2006 IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings. Although the working hours were irregular and super duper exhausting, the company and experience there were priceless. Made a couple of new friends, played stupid games, ran round the airport from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1. Laughing out loud during the midnights and early mornings, using the damn comfortable and soothing iFoot and eating unhealthy food like Burger King and McDonald's. Luckily Subway made it healthier and playing XBox was great! Watched the world's "boring-iest" TV programmes like BBC World and Bloomberg made us feel that time passes even slower. Riding on board 858 every day was adventurous, with 45 minutes to reach the destination.
Watching Wang Lee Hom's 'Heroes of Earth" concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium with my sister. The show put up was fantastic with musics, songs and other special performances. Lee Hom is really one talented singer and songwriter! One of the best concerts I've ever attended!
Attending the Volunteers' Appreciation Event for S2006 at VivoCity. Was a new experience too because it's like being invited and then we had to submit our names? Hahah, it was good with emcees like Jamie Yeo, performances by Hady Mirza and G.O.H. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
Meeting up with a few secondary school mates after so long and it's good to catch up with our lives once in a while.
Charmaine's 18th Birthday at Goodwood Park Hotel is something to mention about. The place we have yearned to go but didn't. With her parents = my uncle and aunty, Shermaine, Christina, Yi Jin and Charmaine's boyfriend. The food was a disappointment, however.
Seeing my friends drunk at a chill-out place called Music Heritage at Boat Quay. It was a nice gathering but a bad experience. I almost had a nightmare. Hahahaha, see this?
Celebrating my birthday at The Altivo Bar (The Jewel Box). The choices of food available was not as great but I can say the food is delicious. 4-stars out of 5 for the food and 3-stars out of 5 for the price. The ambience is something that must be mentioned because its really good. Snowfall was a little weird because the place becomes less-romantic when the spotlights are being switched on.
Having a sumptuous birthday dinner with family at Crystal Jade Palace. I love the place very much but I love the food more, especially the Peking Duck. Will be back there very soon! 5-stars out of 5 for the food.
Getting a small improvement for my GPA at 3.24. Something that I've worked for, so should feel happy right? I hope to get better results too, however the competition in class is like fighting a battle.
Having to do so many projects and the time given was too little to complete but with the help of good team members, the projects were all done on time and I guess that's one of the achievements.
Kaypo-ing my JC friends location of their Prom Night. It was a night of glitz and glamour I can say. Hahaha. From Marriott to Ritz-Carlton, wonderful right?
Flying off to Hong Kong immediately after my exams was fun. It wasn't as bad as having to rush to the airport to board the flight to Taiwan the other time straight after my last paper. I love Hong Kong so much I suggested to extend the number of days there the next time we go. We managed to complete the itinerary. Places we went included the always-visited Victoria Harbour, SOGO, IFC Mall, The Peak, Madame Tussauds, Langham Place, Ngong Ping 360 Skyrail, eating Xu Liu Shan every night and etc. Well, more details are in the photo album. I promise I will be back for more after visiting HK for 7 years! Hahaha.
Going to my grandma's house with all the others to do the ritual. It was tiring and boring for us, but not for others. It was a "gathering" I can say. She has now shifted from a bungalow to an ultra-luxurious villa.
And finally, today is the 31st of December 2006 = the last day of Year 2006. So by now, I guess you will not wonder why I did not use one word/phrase to describe this year. 2006 has been a year of experiences with thorough exposures to the world and reality. I have placed my virtual wishes onto the spheres online via Esplanade's wesbite and hope it will work la.
The new year has already got activities lined up, with first in hand a super grand and glamourous wedding dinner at The Fullerton Hotel. Okay, Charmaine, Pat and I will most probably be updating our blogs with entries and photos, so if you are kaypo then please check back after 2 Jan.
This entry is long enough to place a fullstop to the Year 2006 list of blog entries. Here, I wish all of you a Happy New Year and may you have a good year ahead! *Hums to Auld Lang Syne*
