an oriental twist
Wednesday, October 18, 2006 .::. S2006 Volunteer Appreciation Event @ VivoCity
Glad that the teacher let us off early after completing the groupwork so that some of them could go home and prepare for evening's function. I was almost late because I slept and only had like thirty-minutes to prepare. I sort of rushed out and got onto the bus and trains just in time. Phew.

Met up with some of my friends at HarbourFront and went to register ourselves at VivoCity for the S2006-Volunteer Appreciation Event. Had to queue and show our identification cards in exchange for a 'security' wrist band which allows you to enter the Sky Park. There were hell lot of people but the waiting process was a pretty quick one. The whole of Food Republic (located at L3) and part of the Sky Park was closed for this private function. Security check points and all, pretty tight. Settled down at the centre of the amphitheatre-alike. The emcees were this guy called Edmund and this lady called Jamie Yeo. Prime Minister Lee graced the event and gave a speech before presenting the plaque to organisations for their help during the IMF-World Bank meetings in September. Performances by some unknowns with a-capella singing, fire performers, belly dancers which all of the above I didn't watch until the in-line skating and the cheerleading team from Ngee Ann Polytechnic. A surprise performance was made by Singapore Idol winner, Hady Mirza who is making his first public performance and singing three songs which include his first single, "You gave me wings".

The food served today was by Banquet and yeah, surprisingly there were chefs around to serve you. Didn't use the coupons issued by Food Republic to exchange for free-of-charge food items. The buffet was pretty good. Took photos with friends and yes, Jamie Yeo! Hahaha, she's really nice and friendly. The event ended at around 9pm and we were told to collect our goodie bags from the registration counters. In the goodie bag, it has a polo-tee with S2006 and the logo, this gold-plated S2006 pin and a limited edition S2006 commemorative EZ-Link card. All I need to wait is my pay and the certificate which will be given to us for participating in this national event. The stuffs inside are rather small but I guess that's good enough. Something that not everyone can get, well not so for the shirt. But anyways, the event was enjoyable and thumbs-up for everyone involved. After the event, walked around and bought a packet of sweet from Marks & Spencer. More shops are open and I think it's time to be back there again in another, let's say 2 weeks time.

Shall update here again and upload the photos soon. More to come... Laters! :))
